A New Chapter in Cancer Care for Shaukat Khanum’s Acute Medical Unit in Lahore
In a significant step for Pakistan, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC), Lahore, is preparing to open a truly brand-new, built 41-bed Acute Medical Unit (AMU). This addition of 41 new bed sets will greatly expand the much-needed emergency assessment capabilities for our patients, and clinical teams argued that was much needed.
For our cancer patients, time is critical. Shaukat Khanum AMU is designed to offer quicker assessments for the cancer patients and more immediate interventions and to ensure it provides a more comfortable environment for those arriving with serious symptoms. Whether it's managing sudden complications for Shaukat Khanum from chemotherapy or addressing other medical emergencies, this new unit will allow doctors and nurses to respond more efficiently and compassionately.
“As patient numbers grow, so must our capacity to care,” says one of the senior doctors at SKMCH&RC. “This unit is not just about beds—it’s about bringing dignity, speed, and quality to every emergency encounter.”
The Shaukat Khanum facility reflects the hospital’s ongoing mission to ensure that Shaukat Khanum provides world-class care and treatment in Pakistan, regardless of whether a patient is unable to pay. It’s a mission that’s only possible because of generous supporters from around the world.
Whether people are based in Pakistan or overseas, Shaukat Khanum provides you the opportunity to be part of this life-saving journey in Pakistan. Pakistani living abroad or locally, their much-needed donations can be directed toward a project of your choice at our facilities in Lahore, Peshawar, or Karachi.
