Afghan Trade and Tax Evasion Contribute to 5 Trillion PKR Losses in Pakistan’s Maritime Sector

According to Geo News senior journalist Ansar Abbasi, the Pakistan maritime sector is facing huge losses on an annual basis, and it loses around 5 trillion PKR annually.

Ansar Abbasi claims that Pakistan's maritime sector is making a loss due to underreporting, fake invoices, evading taxes, and malpractices. Afghan trade also plays a major role, and it is also underutilized as well.

He claims that underutilization costs Pakistan alone the loss of 3.19 trillion PKR; other issues caused 1.12 trillion PKR, including tax evasion.

It has a unique location and is ideally located, still it is ranked lowest globally due to its under utilization and management issues, which are unable to utilize its full capacity.

He said that in reports it is suggested that there is untapped potential that could generate income from tourism. Proper billing and proper utilization of the port can generate much for Pakistan.
