IMF Approves US 1.3 Billion Dollar Loan for Pakistan
Despite India's attempt to block the IMF funding for Pakistan, other executive directors ignored India's request and voted in favor of the loan. Yes, India did try yesterday to sabotage Pakistan's IMF loan program and tried to make the IMF a political arena for its own purpose. It would have been the first time that the IMF board of members was even allowed to speak this kind of language in a meeting. However, IMF rules are very strict, as the IMF does not allow voting against the staff-level agreement request, and India's best option was only to abstain, which India did. The reason India gave for abstaining was charging Pakistan as a terror without providing any evidence for it.
Pakistan has repeatedly said that India should provide evidence of Pakistan's involvement in the Kashmir attack; however, India does not believe in providing the evidence and bluntly charges blame on Pakistan without any evidence. This is the reason no world leaders came to the defense of India and did not support their claims against Pakistan. At first, India tried its best on the 23rd of April to stage a serious diplomatic effort to isolate Pakistan; however, when foreign diplomats sought evidence from India, they said that they did not have any evidence at the moment except assumptions that it was Pakistan's doing.
The IMF is the lender of last resort, and it does not entertain such a request. No country allows such a request without evidence, and the IMF would never allow such a tactic to derail its institution. India has learned that no one will come to support claims without evidence, as people are now becoming aware that India always blames without evidence. Additionally, now Pakistan has been linked with two IMF programs. Pakistan's Climate IMF program was also approved by the IMF board despite India's request to review Pakistan's IMF program; however, the IMF ignored such a request and approved Pakistan's IMF program.
