If we break it down further, around 51% of bank accounts carry less than Rs. 5,000, while another 20% have between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 50,000.
Pakistan’s risk of defaulting on its external debt has dropped and has been reduced to 47%, making it one of the best performers globally in this area due to much-needed reforms and commitment to the IMF program.
In its latest report for the third quarter of fiscal year 2025, published by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), it shared that digital payment methods are up by 89% of all retail transactions by volume in Pakistan. Banking through mobile apps has been a big driver of this shift.
Retail payments grew by 12%, reaching 2.4 billion transactions in total. The overall value of these transactions hit Rs. 164 trillion.
